acer ferrari 3200: powers on, spins HD & DVD, monitor remains unlit, no beeps or sounds, seems as if it doesnt make it through the POST, or even into or out of the BIOS boot. Computer was left near a small, possibly unshielded 220 watt sub-woofer for about 24 hours or more.

I fear that scrambled the ROM. The power LED cycles from green to amber continuously. Any other ideas on what might have happened, or if its a scrambled ROM, is there any solution im unaware of that can resuscitate my machineor am i correct to assume that scrambled ROM = dead board = lost hope = many tears = new laptop?! Hey ryanexec, I am not familiar with this model at all and cannot translate the code (green to amber).

May be it is just a coincidence that your laptop stopped working after you left it by the sub-woofer. Try to remove parts like hard drive, dvd drive, wireless card, etc. One by one and see if you can get a video. I would also try to connect an external monitor to see if you can get the external video. Try to reseat (or replace if you can) the memory stick.

Sometimes a failing memory stick can cause the problem you described. Hey Pasquale, The problem you described looks pretty much as overheating problem. Even though the heatisnk is clean, it is still possible that the thermal grease dried out and the CPU overheats. It doesn’t look like a software problem, memory problem or hard drive problem because you have to wait for 5-10 minutes before you turn it on. Just in case I would try this.

You can download operating system. After you download it, you can burn it on one CD.

It is Linux live CD. When you boot your laptop from Knoppix CD, it will start Linux OS right from the CD.

Knoppix environment is very similar to Windows. When you boot from Knoppix, you bypass the hard drive and the Windows OS and you can illuminate the Windows and the hard drive related problems.

If your laptop still shuts down in 5-10 minutes when you run Knoppix, then most likely your laptop is overheating. Hey CJ2600, had a Knoppix STD live CD lying around. Booted it up with that and I find no problems with overheat. Comp dosn’t freeze up or shut down.

I tried playing a few games that come with it to get the CPU to overheat but no avail. However when I turn the comp off and try to start it back up again I have to do the whole routine of clicking the power button off and on x1000 Or wait 5 mins and then try to turn it on. I am not trying to dismiss the overheating problem however maybe when it boots into windos the CPU overheats alot faster then when I run off of knoppix? How do I tell fi I am out of thermal grease? Thank you so much for the quick response! Hello, i have a problem with a laptop that isn’t mine. An Acer travelmate 220.

I had it on my bed, for about 3 hours, and i think perhaps that wasn’t the most intelligent of moves, as it just shut down and now it won’t turn on. I think it may have overheated??

Or I may have blown something? But it won’t even register the power cable. I don’t want to take the computer apart, in case this voids the warrenty, however,i would prefer not to pay large amounts of money when i return it! Any suggestions much appreciated. Hi Ponchus, I do not work with Acer notebooks. So it would be just a guess.

I repaired a lot of Toshiba laptops with a very similar problem. You turn on the laptop, the CPU fans start spinning, the hard drive disk start spinning, but nothing appears on the LCD screen or an external monitor.

In most cases it would be a symptom or a failed memory module. Try to replace the memory stick or install a good known test memory. Do not forget to connect an external monitor and check if you can get a video output there.

If you a video on the external monitor, then the memory is good and most likely the problem is in the display assembly (LCD screen, FL inverter board, video cable, bad connection). It is also possible that the hard drive have failed (“when i tried to boot up the system it got stuck on the welcome screen”) and somehow makes your laptop not to show the video. Try to remove the hard drive and start the laptop. See if you can get a video on the LCD screen. Looking for help.

I have an Acer Travelmate 2300 unit, my client dropped the machine and broke the power connector and the lcd open / close sensor. We have repaired the power connector and disabled the sensor and the machine worked for 1 week. The machine is now back and it won’t initialise meaning: The power lghts, hdisk, dvd etc spin up but nothing happens from there.

I have replaced hdisk, ram, dvd, used external monitor nothing, all I get is the power light flashing from green to orange all the time. Any help would be appreciated, thanks. Hey Jason, Have you reseated all connectors inside the laptop after it was dropped? It is possible that some connectors are not seated properly.

I would try to reseat the CPU first, not sure if you have an easy access to it. I had a dropped laptop for repair in the past and it didn’t start because the CPU was half way out. This morning I had to troubleshoot Toshiba Satellite P35 laptop with exactly the same symptoms. LED light fine, the fan is spinning, the HDD is spinning, the memory OK but nothing on the LCD screen and the external monitor. After I installed a test CPU the laptop started fine. I’m not familiar with Acer laptop flashing code but it looks like you have some power issue on the system board.

I believe it is just a bad connection. Acer Aspire 1520: It started going really slowly tonight, so I thought hey I know I’ll run the recovery and ghost the OS back to the original state, see if that makes any difference. Trouble is, now it just shuts itself down after about 1-3 mins of use, which is not nearly enough time to run the recovery.it gets past the BIOS and will boot from the CD, but thats about it, locks up and shuts down after having copied about 100 megs. So I tried formatting with an old windows cd, and then tried to install windows that way, same problem, only after slightly longer this time. I reckon something is overheating somewhere, I took the panels away that are available to remove at the back, and none of those parts (memory and wirelesss card i guess) are hot at all. (not that I would expect the wireless card to be hot, but hey! I could get at that, so I checked ) I’m getting a really bad feeling about the whole thing, it’s about 2 months over the end of the warranty now, so i won’t be able to get it looked at that wayany suggestions??

Daniel, I think your laptop shuts down because the CPU overheats. Another symptom of overheating – the laptop runs slower then usual.

It might happen because the heatsink is clogged with lint or the CPU fan stopped working. I am not familiar with Acer laptops but I guess it has some openings in the CPU area so the hot air can get out. Buy a can of compressed air and blow inside the openings. See if it will fix the problem. Turn on the laptop and listen for fan to start spinning. The fan should start spinning before the laptop shuts down.

If you cannot hear it then most likely the fan is bad and should be replaced. I have a Acer Aspire, the battery is reconogized in the power meter in the control panel, but it will only work with the power adapter plugged in. I have replaced the original battery with a brand new one, still the same symptoms. After disassembling the laptop there is a 2 burnt chips, on the motherboard, not exactly sure if they are resistors, compacitors, or what exactly.

The numbers on the component are: 4800B, W42B. If you have any suggestions please let me know. Thank you Curtis Peterson, ISA. James, Usually you can re-image the hard drive if you use a restore CDs or DVD. I’m not sure how it works with Acer laptops. For example Toshiba, Dell, HP supply a recovery, restore media witch you can run to restore the laptop back to original factory settings. All you have to do – to insert the disk inside the laptop and make it boot from the DVD drive and follow the instructions.

Some manufacturers (IBM for example) create a recovery partition on the hard drive and you can access it if you press F-key on startup. Make sure to backup all important data from your hard drive. Everything would be erased if you re-image the drive. We have an Acer Aspire 5002 which is back in for service again at the end of the one year warranty. In this first year it has broken down approximately every 3 months and has always seemed to run hot.

The fan was replaced after 2 months, the motherboard after 4 months, the LCD screen and power cord after 7 months, and now at 11.9 months, it is in for a broken hinge which Acer says will not be covered by the warranty. My son (the user) has been careful with it and yet has had nothing but problems. Suffice to say, we will not buy another Acer. However, is there anywhere we can get repair documentation for this unit? If nothing else we can use it as a learning experience! I have an Acer Aspire 1640 Periodically it will shutoff on its own, just flash off it acts somewhat like when a laptop overheats, but it doesn’t appear to be warm at all when it shuts off. It will not turn itself off if the laptop is sitting on a desk or something else that doesn’t move, but if the laptop is on your lap or I pick the laptop up to move it around, it will shutoff.

I’m kind of thinking that something like the Ram could be lose, but nothing appeared to be loose when I opened it up any ideas? Or should I call the Acer support before the warrenty is up if its not already expired:-/ thanks in advance •. If the laptop is still under warranty I would defiantly call the tech support.

If the warranty is over, I would try this. Remove all modules that you can access: hard drive, DVD drive, wireless card, battery. Even without these modules you still should be able to start the laptop and get some video on the screen.

Move the memory into the second slot, if you have any. Try moving the laptop without all abovementioned modules. Does it still shut down? If it’s stable and will not shut down anymore, install parts one by one and test the laptop after each step. Find out after which module it will start failing. It’s possible that simple reseating can fix the problem.

If yes, then you might have a loose cable connection somewhere on the system board or inside the display assembly. Further troubleshooting will require taking apart the laptop and reseating all cables. BUT find out if you still have the warranty. Max, I just looked at the FRU manual for Acer Aspire 1800 and it’s not clear if the power jack is located on the motherboard, I think it is.

I have to push it in hard and move it to different angles to make it work but this does not always work I think that it could be either a loose wire inside the power cord or the power jack is loose or broken. First of all, find a multimeter and check if the power on the AC adapter plug cuts off when you move the cord. If it does, you’ll have to replace the adapter. If the adapter is fine, then most likely it’s a power jack problem, it’s either broken or loose. To fix the problem it would be necessary to resolder or replace the power jack.. Check out the link and you’ll see what I mean. hi i have an acer travelmate and my hard drive is listed as none in the acer bios.

I have been having trouble today starting up windows (it only started and froze in 1 of around 40 tries). Also when it fails to start windows it gives a grey screen similar to the boot menu except it only lists the available boot devices which i have tried and none work. Do i need to physically reconnect my hard drive (since it shows up as none on the BIOS and I am under the impression that there should be a hard drive name listed there, or does something else need to be done. Chanel, Have you tried calling ACER directly, may be you can buy it from them? I saw the ad on ebay about the one recovery disk working for all Acer computers but I’m a little skeptical I’ve seen that before with Dell laptops.

One recovery CD works for a few different models. The trick is that this CD installs only the operating system and doesn’t have any device drivers on it. After you install the operating system you still have to download and install all missing device drivers. That’s my guess. Jihsan, First of all I would try reseating the hard drive. Just disconnect it from the laptop and connect it back.

Then you can download and run to test the hard drive and if the test fails I would replace the hard drive. Most likely you have a faulty hard drive because a good hard drive should be recognized by the BIOS without any problem. Find another laptop hard drive and see if it’s recognized by the BIOS. If you still have the same problem even with a new drive, it might be an issue with the controller on the motherboard. bk, I had the same problem with a Dell laptop. The laptop had a CD-Rom drive installed but was missing the hard drive. For some reason the BIOS didn’t recognize the CD-Rom drive, I didn’t see it listed in the BIOS and wasn’t able to boot from it until I installed a new hard drive.

After I installed the hard dive everything works just fine and I can see both devices in the BIOS. I believe both drives are connected to the same IDE cannel and it’s necessary to have both drives installed (working properly) or the BIOS will not see them. I think you might have the same problem. Both hard drives in your laptop are connected to the same IDE channel and if one of the drives fails, both of them disappear from the BIOS. That’s my guess; please correct me if I’m wrong. Find a test hard drives and replace the drives in your laptop one by one. Check the BIOS after each step to find out with one is a failed drive.

The problem: 2 weeks ago as my laptop aspire 1620 was in use and connected to the internet, suddenly run off having the following symptoms. The symptoms: Main on-off button led stays on. Quick launch button for email also stays on as well as hard disk led is continuously on.

The main processor fan is working but spining very slow. No response when i press the buttons. When i plugged out the battery and the dc supply the computer went off and when i press the main button to switch it on, for half second my computer seems that it is going to start up properly, but the same thing is happening again.

Notice: I plugged my USB FLASH LIGHT and i saw that it lights for the same time my computer is trying to start up and then goes off. What i did so far: Pull out the hard disk, the dvd drive, the modem, the screen, the graphics card, the ram memories, the keyboard, the small battery, the main battery and installed them again one by one trying to eliminate any problem.I checked for damages on the mainboard or for eletronic componets malfunctions but i did nothing. I also pull out dc supply and main battery and pressed the main button for 6 seconds for resetting.

What help do i need: Does anyone know how to proceed on my problem Thank you in advance. Got some trouble with my acer aspire 1452, it’s overheating but not enought too make it restart but enought for being annoying. It has been on one trip to acer for service but the problem came back a few months after. They said that the heatsink was cleaned, and i’m thinking of doing the same thing at home. Here comes the problem: I can’t get all the screws out, there is a single screw just under the monitor that I cant reach, has anyone in here taken a acer apart and can give me directions?

Best regards John •. My laptop is live again!!!!!!! I almost don’t believe it.check out the crazy story underneath On my laptop crashed and i decided to sent it for service on 01/05 friday after trying to fix it by myself. Today i went to the service point and got my acer back because i got ungry with them for the delay of the repair. One week ago i ordered them to do nothing with it.The laptop didn’t go onto the bench for check. So when i took it on my hands i started visual examination for any damages and accidently pressed the main start button. The laptop began to work and boot up easy easy but correct.

In the meanwhile 2 beeps heard from the main board which is a kind of trouble diagnostic code.(i don’t know it. Does anyone know it?) When i arrived at my home i reboot it and know problem. I also checked for errors thru the management tools of windows but the only thing that displays to me is one service control manager fault. Really i don’t know what happend guys.but one thing i know from my experience as amateur electronic engineer. Electronics are getting crazy sometimes and i do have stories to tell. HiI need help!

I have an Acer Aspire 5100. I started having hard drive problems about a month ago. Acer sent me a new blank hard driveI installed it, but everytime I try to run my recovery disks on it, it fails. It will go to about 30% complete, then it will give me an error saying “Restore failed! Cracked Terminator 3 Deleted Scene. Reason: 0sf0000005. When it restarts it gives me another error that says “NTLDR is missing Press any key to restart.

I am not very good with computers, so I am trying everything I know to do. The recovery disks that I have are the ones that I paid Circuit City to make.

Any thoughts or suggestions?? Suzie, I think it could be a software related issue. Can you access the BIOS setup screen by pressing one of the function keys in the top row on the keyboard?

I’m not sure exactly which one you should use for Acer laptops (try Esc, F1, F2). Can you boot the laptop into safe mode by pressing F8? I’m just trying to figure out if the keyboard keys work fine before Windows starts loading. If it does, then it’s software problem. If the keyboard keys do not work even in BIOS, then most likely it’s a hardware related problem. I’m not if you can take apart the laptop, but at the next step I would try reseating the keyboard and touch pad cables on the motherboard, maybe it’s just a loose connection.

Also check the BIOS settings (if you can access it of course). Set the BIOS to defaults. Check if there are any settings to enable/disable the internal keyboard/touch pad in the BIOS. Hi there, I am having a major problem with my Acer Travelmate 4000. It wont turn on at all when the power button is pressed, sometimes it will randomly load up, but it is doing this less and less, and I havent been able to turn it on for a few days now. When it did load up, it loaded up normally. When the Ac adapter is connected, the light at the front of it turns on to indicate the battery charging, but I still get no response even after charging for a few hours.

I have tried turning it on directly with the AC adapter (without the battery), but I still get nothing. Is it possible to be a problem with the switch and nothing to do witht the battery/adapter at all?! Any help would be appreciated. I have an ACER aspire 1670. When I switch it on it powers up for a couple of seconds and then turns itself off again. All the fans start up and the hard drive and the screen flickers a few times before turning off.

I’ve tried removing various components (hard disk, dvd drive, ram etc) and nothing has helped. I’ve checked the connectors to the display which seem to seated correctly. I’ve also tried hooking it up to an external monitor with no luck. Any idea what may be causing this? Any help appreciated.

Peter, I would run the memory test first (when you can start the laptop). Very often this problem is caused by a faulty memory module. If you have two memory modules, remove them one by one. Test the laptop with only one memory stick in place. Also test the laptop with both memory stick in the slot A and then in the slot B. If the laptop works fine with both RAM modules installed in the slot A but freezes when they are installed in the slot B, you might have a faulty memory slot.

One guy suggested cleaning the contacts inside the memory slot with an alcohol wipe, of course when the AC adapter is unplugged and battery is removed. jo corrigan, It’s hard to guess what is wrong at this point.

It could be either software or hardware related issue. Can you start the laptop from a bootable CD or DVD disk (recovery disk for example)? Does the drive recognize this disk at all? I do not troubleshoot software issues because it might takes hours to figure out what is wrong.

In cases like this I reinstall the operating system from scratch and if the same problem appears again even with a new software load, it’s a hardware related issue, probably a faulty CD/DVD drive. Hello there, I wrote back in March 29th asking about how to remove the hard drive on a travelmate 2100. I found out later that you don´t answer questions regarding acer laptops (so, sorry about that). Anyway, it turns out, to remove the hard drive you just need to take out the battery and pull on the little plastic tab that you see in the middle. I had to take apart the whole laptop to find this out, ’cause I didn’t want to pull too hard before I knew what it was for. I just thought this may be useful for someone else in the same situation. Hey, maybe like 5 hours ago my Acer Travelmate 2300 just turned itself off.

I started it up, only to find out that it wasn’t recognizing my power cord. I started up an hour later, thinking it might have overheated, yet I booted it up, and it still wasn’t recognizing it. The AC adaptor light also wasn’t on.

I restarted it, and the AC adaptor light was flashing on and off. Maybe five minutes ago, I tried starting it up once again, yet it didn’t even try. The AC adaptor light flashed on and off, and now I am getting very frustrated. A while ago, my dad owned this Acer, and the casing around the power cord was ripped up, yet the wiring inside was left untouched.

It’s been working since then, yet today it screwed up. Please, someone, help!!!!! Thank you SO much in advance, seeing as I think my girlfrind my be a little upset with me right now and she is not answering her phone and we usually talk on MSN messenger. Hello, I have an Acer 2702 Wlmi and not sure what the problem it with it.It started when my wife thought she switched it off but closed the lid too soon and it went into hibernation, 3 weeks later it comes out of its case and it switches on and gives the finall “battery dead” beeps. I plug in the power cable and the light on the front turns reddy orange and flashes on/off.

I bought a new battery and when I fitted it and turn it on I get an error message telling me its the incorrect battery please insert proper one system is now going into hibernation mode. I sent that batery back and told them and got a refund. I then ordered a new one from acer and get the same thing.

kyle seddon, MEDIA TEST FAILURE,CHECK CABLE.EXITING PXE ROM.OPERATING SYSTEN NOT FOUND Looks like your laptop is trying to boot from LAN because for some reason it doesn’t detect the hard drive. Most likely the hard drive is bad and has to be replaced. Enter the BIOS setup menu. Find out if the hard drive is detected by the BIOS.

Make sure the hard drive is the first device in the boot order. You can test the hard drive with Hitachi’s drive fitness test utility (link in Resources).

Try reconnecting the hard drive. Just unplug it from the motherboard and plug it back in. It’s possible that the hard drive got disconnected from the motherboard. kyle seddon, If the hard dive is the first device in the boot order (like in your case) but you still getting the same error message on startup MEDIA TEST FAILURE,CHECK CABLE.EXITING PXE ROM.OPERATING SYSTEN NOT FOUND it could be related to: 1. Corrupted operating system. In this case try reinstalling OS. Failed hard dive.

First, test the hard dive with Hitachi’s drive fitness test to make sure it’s bad and then replace the hard drive. The worst case scenario. There is nothing wrong with the hard drive and there is a problem with the controller on the motherboard. In this case you’ll have to replace the whole motherboard. It seems as though I’m not the only one who has an issue with the AC-adapter of my Acer aspire laptop (3680).

I’m relieved to know that I’m not alone in having this very frustrating problem, but it does give me the idea that I shouldn’t purchase anything from Acer again. The AC-adapter is not working. Like many people, I have to shove it in hard and turn it around at different angles until the light comes on, on the front of the laptop, that lets me know it’s working. The battery is fine, and chargers when I can get the AC-adapter to work.

I’ve actually had to tape the AC-adapter to the laptop to get it to work long enough for me to be able to use the laptop. I’d really like to know what I can do about it, if anything at all CAN be done. I need my laptop, and at the moment, I cannot afford to get a new one. Also, let me know why my laptop will only work in safe mode. I’m pretty sure I know what the problem is and how to fix it when it comes to that, but I wonder if anyone else is having that problem as well. Suzie, having the Dell travelmate 2450 with the none working touchpad and keyboard. It still has the same problem, it comes on with no problem but then can’t do nothing.

Have you tried attaching an external keyboard and mouse? Will it work with the external devices? I tried doing the Esc F2, but it won’t work.

So I can’t get into the BIOS. If the keyboard doesn’t work on startup and you cannot even enter the BIOS setup menu, probably you have a hardware related problem. It’s hard to tell what is wrong. Could be loose connection. I would try reseating cables on the motherboard but it means you’ll have to open up the laptop case.

Could be something wrong with the motherboard. Anyway, test the laptop with an external keyboard. Bonita Williams, I have a TravelMate 4000 and the Internet connection stopped working. I was using a DSL and it won’t even let me install a dial-up to get on the Internet.

Probably software related issue. When you connect through DSL, you are using Ethernet port, when you connect through dialpup, you are using the dial-up modem. It’s unlikely that Ethernet and dial-up failed at the same time.

Try using Windows System Restore utility and revert it back to the time when your Internet connection was working. Brandi, The AC-adapter is not working. Like many people, I have to shove it in hard and turn it around at different angles until the light comes on, on the front of the laptop, that lets me know it’s working.

Sounds like the. Apparently, the power jack is loosing connection with the motherboard and has to be. Very common problem for different laptop brands and makes. But before you replace the power jack, I would test the AC adapter with a voltmeter. If the power cuts off when you move the power cable, the cable has a damage inside and the adapter has to be replaced. I need your help please, i have an acer TravelMate 3260 which am having problems with, it came with XP home edtion and i partitioned it to install Professional on the other partition.

The professional is working fine with some little problem with am trying to solve but the home edtion won’t display the graphics anytime it boots (explorer.exe) which I’ve once experience it with the professional and i copied it from the home edition with the help of the task manager and it worked to restore the display for the Professional. But when it came to the turn of home edition, i tried doing the same going to where explorer.exe is on professional using windows task manager but i couldn’t.

The only option am left with is to restore the home edition to the hidden default factory settings partition in it but i don’t know how to get there and do that •. My new ACER 4720Z once turned on, at different times will all of a sudden freeze with lines running vertically up & down on the display screen.

Once this happens, it must be shut off by holding the power button down for 6 seconds. This has happened to the first one I baught, took it back – got another – same thing and now a third. I thought – finally, all was good – THEN – #3 did it too.

Can anyone suggest what may be causing this. I have lost any faith I had with ACER. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Alright, so I could read through all these comments to see if anyone else is having this problem, but that would take forever. So please excuse me if this has been asked before. I have an Acer Aspire 3680. I keep it on my desk plugged in 24/7, as if it’s a desktop computer and it’s usually always on.

I just leave whatever I’m doing up, and then lock it so that you need a password to get back on so my little brother doesn’t mess with it. I never had a problem. Occasionally when it needed Windows updates it would shut down, but lately, it has been shutting down all by itself, all the time. Like it runs for a couple hours max and then just powers down. And twice now, it’s done it when I’m sitting here browsing the internet or something. The screen just goes black and everything turns off.

Then when I turn it back down, it tells me that it was an improper shut down. I don’t know what is going on.

I thought maybe I accidentally changed the settings, telling it to shut down within a set of amount of time, but no, the settings still say “shut down – never.” And I thought perhaps it was my AVG Anti-Virus, but I’m doubting that now too. Is it overheating? Do I have a virus?

Is it my power cord, even though it shows that my battery is full? Or is this a common problem? I’m just scared that I’ll be typing a paper for school and lose everything. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Anastasia, but lately, it has been shutting down all by itself, all the time.

It happens because overtime the cooling module gets clogged with dust. You can fix the problem if you blow the dust off the heat sink and cooling fans. Buy compressed air and spray it inside the vents on the bottom or on the side of your laptop until all dust is gone.

For more information you can read. Hi, i’ve just bought an Acer laptop about a week ago & im already having an issue with it. Sometimes, eventhough the volume is set at a certain number or perhaps all the volume is up, sometimes there’s no sound especially when running applications like messenger.

When someone signs in, sometimes i would hear & other times nothingi even opened an application & was hitting the backspace buttom continuously.first it wasn’t making an sound but after it started to improve until it sounded as it should. Can someone please tell me what’s going on??? Im disappointed that i’m having an issue soooo early. Emile, Test your laptop with headphones. If you headphones have sound all the time but external speakers work intermittently, most likely this problem is related to the external speakers. If both internal and external speakers work intermittently, this could be either software related issue or something more serious, like sound card failure.

Back up all personal files and reimage the hard drive from the recovery disc, it will reload the laptop back to factory defaults. If you still experience the same issue even after reimaging the hard dive, you’ll have to ship your laptop for service. Also, find out if you have the latest BIOS version installed on your laptop.

It’s possible (but not likely) that newer BIOS fixes this problem. Dear ACER 2450 LAPTOP REPAIR TECHS how are you today?? Try updating the BIOS. Acer Ferrari 3400 LT ============================================= When Laptop on AC power or on battery and switched on, Lights come on( Activity LED, HDD LED, Wireless LED).

The Activity LED constantly goes from green to orange and there’s no display either. The weird think is if you switch it off “by force”, remove the AC and then put it back; the LT goes on all on its own.

I already tried the solutions mentioned above; used a external monitor, replaced & tested the RAM modules, tested the battery and the AC adapter:::Those seem to be all fine so I suspect the issue to be either a faulty Mainboard or CPU. I bought new battery for Acer TravelMate 5600 (the approved replacement from Acer dealer – 14.8V Sanyo) and it gives me error “Incorrect battery” when turning on the laptop – before loading Windows. If there is no AC connected then I cannot turn it on. I tried another battery – the same error.

My old battery (2 years) was OK just was discharged in 10 minutes. I found the same problem here posted couple of pages ago but no solution. Service says it need motherboard replacement – how come I should pay if it is working with old battery?

Anyone any idea? Hi, I really need help here; MY LAPTOP ACER 3680 melted my AC adapter. It’s been overheating to the point where it burned my finger when I felt the tip of the adapter. Ever since I came back from summer vacation, it started to overheat EVERY DAY.

At most, I could use it for about 5hrs before it started losing the AC adapter (the orange light would be gone). As days went by, the battery life lowered even when the AC adapter was plugged in. 5 to 4 to 3 to just 1 hour. Even when I would try to re energize the battery, and it indicated that the battery life was FULL, the battery would only last 2 hrs. It melted my first AC adapter.

I bought another one and it burnt the inside of the adapter tip. In order for the laptop to find the plug, I would have to move the AC adapter tip around, but it would have to be still. Even then, the laptop overheats and then it starts to melt the AC adapter. I think I’m gonna try the Acer Aspire One. PLEASE, ASAP! Thought I’d share an experience with you guys just in case it helps someone else.

I have an Acer Aspire 3630(I think its actual model is 3634WLMI). It was having problems with a very noisy fan was swithcing off randomly.

After looking through your threads and other resources on the web I found tools to let me see the CPU temp and found it was operating at around 74c and the noise was the fan on high speed trying to cool it. Following advice from the likes of the threads here I opened it up to clean the fand and heatsink. What I found was that the fan cover (part of the body shell you remove to access the fan) had 2 sheets covering it. One was a mesh gauze which I presume was to help prevent dust, but under that three quarters covering the vent was a plastic sheet.

This effectively reduces the airflow and the CPU overheats. I’ve now removed the plastic and the CPU runs at around 45-55c and the fan cuts in cools itself down and then cust off.

Its fantastci – no more fan noise and no more over heating. Sounds like a design fault or just my luck that the guy who put the gause cover on didn’t remove the plastic protector •. hey folks, just read all these articles and it kinda sounds like its wats happening to my Acer Aspire 1640, Its overheating insainly.

After running for just 10 minutes my keyboard is very warm and the bottom burns my legs, the fan is working constantly (god bless the poor thing) but i dont think my heatsink is working properly? Any surgestions? When i opened it i cudnt see any gel or anything on top of itshud it have sum? Im not sure if this is connected but my battery as died totally now and only works when it is plugged in. I think i will have to purchase a new 1 of those but i was wondering if there is anyway of fixing my heatsink without replacing it? How wud i go about cleaning it ect? Can i buy this gel everyone is talkin about?

By the way to all those people with AC jack problems, it is very common on acers, i have replaced mine twice now and it is very easy, feel free to contact me if u need any help changing them! Please mr cj2600 help me, my laptop is on deaths door! hello all, I have an acer aspire 3260 laptop under repair. It had a “missing or corrupted ntoskrnl.exe” file error upon power on.

Checked on bios but but don’t find anything unusual. So worst is try to repair via repair console. So i inserted the xp home installer and let it boot from cd. However, upon reaching point where it says what to do, to install xp or repair, the system shuts off. I check the battery and power-all is ok.

So i repeat the process and this time after restart, the system shuts off again. Repeat the same process and reach the point of the selection of what to do. Then again it shuts off after i selected the “repair via console”. So i opened the portion where the hdd is and took it out and tested on a working toshiba laptop. The drive cannot be detected. I inserted the hdd of the toshiba laptop into the acer and it can be detected. So i bought a new hdd.

However when i was trying to install the xp into the new laptop, the acer shuts off again. Is there anybody who can suggest to go about this? Rimon Ibrahim Farid, I have a laptop acer 1680 and when starting up the windows it is ok screen without any icons on it or tool bar just the wallpaper only, please support me to work it Sounds like a software related problem. Can you boot laptop in Safe Mode. Here’s something to try.

Start the laptop and press F8 as soon as logo appears on the screen. From the boot menu choose “Last Known Good Configuration” and press enter. As the last resort, you can reinstall the operating system from the recovery disc. Ken, just installed new keyboard and having problem with keys secondary numbers on keys uiojklm letters only rec6gnise when i hold function key otherw5se it defaults to secondary numbers seems like a calculator I guess U,I,O,J,K,L,M keys works as numbers 4,5,6,7,8,9,0 because you have NumLk enabled. To disable NumLk press the Fn key and hold it down and at the same time press once on the NumLk key which could be found in the top row.

After you disable NumLk function, you’ll get your letters back. Cyndi, On the Aspire 3003, the original hard drive showed a C drive (20 GB) and a D drive (20 GB) which was the total of the original 40 GB hard drive.

I replaced with a 250 GB but now it only shows a C drive with 127 GB. Do you know how to get the other 123 GB showing as D Drive? Here’s something you can try. Access the disk management utility: Right click on My Computer – Manage – Disk Management.

In there you’ll see the 250GB and unused space. Right click on the unused space and create a partition. Format it with NTFS. Geogrid Installation Manual. Restart the laptop and you’ll see another drive in My Computer. Thanks for putting this together, it’s a nice resource. Regarding all the weird CD-Drive errors people have been getting, I had something similar not long ago.

I have an Acer Travelmate 2200, and the CD-drive gradually stopped reading disks. I’d put in a disk, it would read it, I’d put in the same disk the next day, it wouldn’t read it, or I’d have to eject and reinsert the disk a few times before it would read. Eventually, it just stopped reading all CDs. I didn’t know what to do, and assumed I’d need to replace the drive, so I started messing with the delicate bits on the drive just for fun. On the drive, there’s the little lens int its track that moves back and forth to read different parts of the disk as it’s turning. I pushed that back and forth a few times with my finger, all the way to the outside and all the way to the middle. Then I dropped in a disk and it worked!

Anyways, I’m here because of a different problem: I bought 2 RAM modules (1gb DDR 2700 soDIMM), to upgrade from the current configuration of a single 256mb module. I can’t find the existing RAM slot! I found the empty slot, and when I put one new module in there, the computer wouldn’t boot properly – windows XP would just about finish loading, and it would reboot and go into CHKDSK. Removing the new RAM returned everything to normal.

I think I need to install 2 identical RAM modules, which I bought anyways, but I can’t find the other memory slot to remove the old memory. The user’s manual is useless, it only describes the empty slot which I found already.

Where is the other RAM slot? Martin, the CD-drive gradually stopped reading disks.

I’d put in a disk, it would read it, I’d put in the same disk the next day, it wouldn’t read it, or I’d have to eject and reinsert the disk a few times before it would read. Eventually, it just stopped reading all CDs. Try cleaning the lens inside the CD drive with a cotton swab soaked in alcohol.

If it doesn’t help, apparently the drive is failing and has to be replaced. I bought 2 RAM modules (1gb DDR 2700 soDIMM), to upgrade from the current configuration of a single 256mb module. I can’t find the existing RAM slot! I found the empty slot, and when I put one new module in there, the computer wouldn’t boot properly – windows XP would just about finish loading, and it would reboot and go into CHKDSK. Removing the new RAM returned everything to normal. You said you bought two modules. Did you try installing the second one?

Does the laptop fail with both modules? I think I need to install 2 identical RAM modules, which I bought anyways, but I can’t find the other memory slot to remove the old memory. The user’s manual is useless, it only describes the empty slot which I found already. Where is the other RAM slot? Most likely it’s hidden under the keyboard.

Hi, i have an acer aspire 1670 it is running vista, it was recently updating when it froze, i had to switch it off, now it won’t come back on! The power comes on (fans, lights, hhd flashes once) oddly the wifi and bluetooth lights are on but nothing on the screen. I have tried swapping and resitting the ram chips, checking all internal cables, cleaning out the fans and removing the usual parts one at a time.

Please Please has anyone got any ideas (apaart from a new motherboard) Thanks in advance Markus •. markus, Also when i purchased this (2nd hand, about 3 weeks ago0 i noticed that someone must have had a memory card stuck in the reader at some point as it looks like they have hacked away inside it with a screwdriver! Would this cause my problem? They might have shorted something inside the slot. When I’m not sure what’s causing the problem I’m doing the following. Disassemble the laptop as much as you can. Leave only most important components: motherboard, CPU with the cooling module and memory.

I assume the video card is integrated into the motherboard. When you have the bare bone system, you still should be able to start it with an external monitor and get at least the logo on the screen.

If still nothing and you are using a known good memory, there must be a problem with the motherboard or CPU. CPU failures are not common at all, so it must be a bad motherboard. Carl Beigle, My friend’s new Acer Laptop has been infested with overwhelming viruses.

Nothing can be openedperiod, so “system restore” is out of the question. What else can be done to get to the internet, so that a virus repair program can be downloaded, and some of these problems alleviated? You can reinstall Windows from scratch. Just boot the laptop from the system recovery disc and follow the instructions. This will erase all data from the hard drive. Remove the hard drive from the laptop and with up-to-date antivirus software installed.

Scan the hard drive and remove all viruses. geevarghese, i have a accer aspire 4710. All is well, except for the display, when i open the screen, at certain positions there is flickering in the screen, and it seems to increase day by day.but when kept open at the maximum open position there is no probelm at all. So can anyone help in is this aspect.

How it flickers? Are you losing the backlight, image or both? I think it’s either bad connection between the video cable and motherboard/LCD screen or the video cable goes bad. I would try reconnecting the video cable on both ends. I would try replacing the cable.

Hey my acer aspire 5670 won’t turn on:S it sounds like it starts but the screen is black. The “boot-button” or what it is (the square next to the two locks in the upper right corner:P) blinks 3 times then waits abit before blinking 3 more times then nothing happens. The laptop has experiensed some “compression” when it was below a quite big amount of weight from bags and such on a train and since then it’s been fucked:S but when I look at instruments inside nothing seems broken or lose or anything. Anyone knows anything? I’m a newbie when it comes to repairing laptops:S •.

Am I the only one that has had BIOS failures with recent version Acer Aspire laptops? I have tried to help folks with two different ones in the past few months, and I have not been able to salvage either one yet (although one is still under “extended warranty” and may get reapir attention through that avenue). I have tried to D/L latest BIOS rev’ns, and load them onto flash drives hoping that that they would boot into them, and that would re-build the BIOS, but with no success so far.

Any suggestions of a clean way to revive failed Acer BIOS would be greatly appreciated!!!! Thanks, Mike •.
